(Persia Digest) – In response to claims by US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, about Iran violating UNSCR 2231, Iranian Foreign Minister, Javad Zarif, tweeted: “‘Surrealism’ is now the US' modus operandi in its foreign affairs: While itself violates UNSCR 2231—and even threatens to punish those who don't wish to violate it in abiding with illegal US sanctions—it now falsely accuses Iran of violating the very SAME resolution. #Hypocrisy!”

Persia Digest (PD) reported that Pompeo had accused Iran of violating UNSCR 2231 earlier by test-firing ballistic missiles when US President, Donald Trump, had already violated the said resolution by withdrawing the US from the 2015 JCPOA nuclear deal unilaterally and reinstating illegal sanctions against Iran.

The Spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry had also commented on Pompeo’s claims by saying: “Iran’s peaceful missile program is purely a deterrent in a war-torn region. Given our experience of war with Saddam and other incidents in this volatile area, we have no choice but to equip ourselves with everything necessary to defend our land.”
