(Persia Digest) – Iran’s Minister of Foreign Affairs has attended a Parliament session today to respond to questions raised by MPs about a US lack of commitment and its withdrawal from the nuclear deal.
Commenting on the issue, Javad Zarif said: “We were given sufficient reassurances and also presented our reports to the IAEA, but the US regime pulled out of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) as it did from its other commitments.”
He added: “What can we expect from a government who is not committed to its international obligations? If the US has abrogated its commitments, you have to blame them, not the servants of our nation or the endurance of our people.”

Zarif referred to the JCPOA saying: “This is an achievement by our great nation which has repeatedly brought Trump to his knees. He has been forced to give up his plans for the Poland Summit twice.”
Noting that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is the executor of the decisions made by the establishment, Zarif said: “Leaving the JCPOA is not difficult for me, but I am not the decision-maker. It is the country’s decision. The deal has benefited us to such an extent that Trump has been trying to eliminate it over the past two years and he is now isolated.”
He reiterated: “The Islamic Republic has made the best choice considering all circumstances and this choice has put the US in a complicated situation; they are doing their best to get out of it.”

Persia Digest (PD) reports that following the unilateral US withdrawal from the nuclear deal, Zarif and his negotiating team, as well as the government of President Hassan Rouhani, have been under fire by conservatives for not taking retaliatory measures. They (conservatives) believe that Iran has sustained losses in the nuclear deal.
Defying international laws and despite opposition by his own allies, Trump announced the US withdrawal from the nuclear deal on 28 April 2018 and resumed anti-Iran sanctions related to the nuclear issue.
