(Persia Digest) – The Iranian Foreign Minister, Javad Zarif, has landed in Moscow Monday morning on his mission to continue consultations regarding the JCPOA.
Javad Zarif will be meeting with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, to examine the viability of the JCPOA and guarantee the benefits of the Iranian nation.
Iran’s top diplomat began his string of trips on Saturday night. His first stop was Beijing and talks with his Chinese counterpart. After concluding talks with Russian FM, Lavrov, he will continue to Brussels to meet with the French, German, and British foreign ministers, and the EU Foreign Affairs Chief Federica Mogherini.
Before leaving Beijing, Zarif pointed to his 3-hour meeting with the Chinese Foreign Minister, saying: “Talks with my Chinese counterpart were very friendly, positive, and constructive.”
He added: “We agreed with the Chinese side that in the next few days and weeks we will have close cooperation to achieve the objective methods of guaranteeing Iranian and Chinese interests as members of the P5+1-1 group. Iran and China have a common position on the issue, which is to pursue the deal by maintaining the interests of Iran.
Persia Digest reports that following the US withdrawal from the JCPOA Iran nuclear deal, Federica Mogherini has opposed Trump’s decision and emphasized on the continuation of EU cooperation with Iran within the framework of the agreement, together with the UK, France, Germany, China, and Russia.
The Iranian President, Hassan Rouhani, has also announced that Tehran will continue to work with the five remaining countries in the nuclear deal. Should Iran not reap the benefits, however, it will take the required actions.
