(Persia Digest) – Iranian Foreign Minister, Javad Zarif, has traveled to Serbia at the head of a political and economic delegation. At a joint press conference with his Serbian counterpart, he emphasized that regional solutions could only be achieved through dialogue and respect for international law.

He said Iran and Serbia can cooperate in the fields of energy, transport, agriculture, technology, and defense, and added: “Many Iranians have traveled to Serbia since visa requirements were lifted between the two countries. We have also been delighted to welcome Serbian visitors in Iran.”

In a meeting with the Serbian President, FM Zarif also extended an invitation by the Iranian President to him. President Aleksandar Vučić also expressed interest in expanding economic relations between the two countries, and said: “We hope that ties between our two countries will expand with concerted efforts to encompass agriculture, mines, energy and tourism among others.”

The Iranian Foreign Minister also held meetings with the Serbian Prime Minister, Parliament Speaker, and Minister of Industry during his trip.

Zarif also spoke at a gathering of Iranians resident in Belgrade, and said: “The person whose first priority was to tear up the Iran nuclear deal (JCPOA) and called it the worst deal ever in the history of the United States, has been unable to do so after a year and two months. He knows now the price he has to pay for such an action.”

Concurrently with Zarif’s trip to Belgrade, the first direct Tehran-Belgrade flight was also announced to take off early March. Flights will run twice weekly by Iran Air.

Iran’s FM who is on a tour of the Balkans and East Europe will fly to Bulgaria, Croatia, and Bosnia after Serbia.
