(Persia Digest) – The famous “Naghsh-e Jahan” square in Isfahan is to host polo games for the Iranian New Year Nowruz in March.
Polo will be played in this famous square in the city which is visited by many tourists every year during the Nowruz celebrations in Iran, which take place for thirteen days, beginning on the spring equinox.
The Head of the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts, and Tourism Organization of Iran, Fereidoun Allahyari, told ISNA News Agency: “We have been staging symbolic games in Naghsh-e Jahan Square over the past three years. A number of photographs from these games have been presented to Unesco as documents for their registration.”
Allahyari said this was an incentive for visiting Isfahan which is being managed by the City Council for Nowruz.
He stressed: “The games will be played in part of the Square. Naturally, it will only be symbolic and not standard.”
The time and date will be announced soon for the Nowruz visitors to Isfahan to make plans to attend.
