(Persia Digest) – The Head of Iran’s Department of Environment has announced: “At the last meeting of the Urmia Lake workgroup with the First Vice President, it was agreed on the suggestion of the Secretariat to attract foreign investment. Coordination has been made with the Central Bank of Iran for the government to repay the foreign funding if this is provided.
Issa Kalantari added: “Presently, funding is the main hurdle to replenishing Urmia Lake. Unfortunately, previous funding allocated to this Lake was not enough to revive it.”
He pointed out that there are no barriers to reviving Urmia Lake except financial reasons, and said: “Once we can obtain the funding, we can initiate the work with great hope.”
