(Persia Digest) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani called the visit of Turkish FM Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu an opportunity for reaching the goal of expanding regional and international bilateral ties between the two countries.

He pointed out to the efforts required to achieve the level of USD 30BN in trade between Iran and Turkey, and stated: “Increasing banking services, using national currencies in trade, and accelerating the implementation of agreements in this matter can boost Tehran-Ankara economic cooperation and further the said goal.”

Rouhani reiterated: “The IR of Iran is ready for further interaction with Turkey in the energy sector and welcomes Turkish investors in its oil and gas projects.”

The President also called the tripartite Sochi Summit an important step for resolving regional issues, and added: “Presently, the Syrian crisis requires further cooperation to be resolved.”

Rouhani continued: “We believe Syrian unity must be preserved and terrorism must be eradicated in this country. Security in Syria is security in the region and we are ready to work with Turkey to abate these concerns in our region.”

He said: “Maintaining the independence of countries and their geographical boundaries will increase regional stability. We must act so that no country in the region feels threatened by its neighbors.”

Turkish FM, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, also assessed the meeting as positive and pointed out to the required efforts for furthering economic ties and banking facilities between the two countries. He said: “Today, we must take great steps to develop, strengthen, and consolidate the relations between Tehran and Ankara more than ever.”

Çavuşoğlu reiterated: “Turkish military presence in northern Syria is only temporary to fight terrorists in that area. We never intend to prolong our stay on Syrian soil.”
