(Persia Digest) – The 71st BAFTA Awards ceremony will be held in London tonight, 18 February 2018. The “Salesman” and “Elle” are both up for the award with the best odds of winning.
“Elle”, by Paul Verhoeven, represented France at the Oscars last year as a main rival for the “Salesman” for the Best Foreign Language Film Award, which was won by the “Salesman”. BAFTA 2018 predictions also place the two rivals at the top of the foreign language film awards list.
Goldderby.com predictions say that “Elle” stands a 4 to 9 chance of winning the 71st edition of the BAFTA Best Foreign Language Film Award according to a poll conducted among 1600 of its users and six film experts. The Oscar winner “Salesman”, directed by Asghar Farhadi, is on its heels with a 2 to 9 odds of winning.
“First they killed my father”, directed by Angelina Jolie, representing the Cambodian cinema at BAFTA, “The Handmaiden” by Park Chan Wook representing S Korea, and “Loveless” by Andrey Zvyagintsev from Russia are the other films competing for the Best Foreign Language Film Award.
Farhadi was also a 2012 BAFTA nominee with his film “A Separation”.
