(Persia Digest) – Iran’s national Greco-Roman wrestling team has won 3 gold and 1 silver medals, and obtained 129 points to rank 5th among 16 teams at the 2018 Asian Wrestling Championships.
The championships were held at the Kozhomkul Sports Palace, Bishkek, in Kyrgyzstan. Team members Hossein Nouri took 3 golds in all in the 87kgs weight class, Seyed Mostafa Salehizadeh in the 97kgs weight class, and Behnam Mahdizadeh in the 130kgs weight class. The only silver medal was won by Mohammad-Ali Garayi in the 72kgs weight category. The fifth team member, Shirzad Beheshti-Tala in the 60kgs weight category, dropped by four levels as compared to the previous games and the team took 5th place in the world.
The other four other Greco-Roman wrestlers from Iran, Reza Khadari in the 55kgs weight class, Keramat Abdoli in the 63kgs weight class, Mohammad Eliasi in the 67kgs weight class, Majid Khalili in the 72kgs weight class, and Yusef Ghaderian in the 82kgs weight class, were eliminated.
Teams from Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan ranked 1st to 3rd respectively. The Championships adopted the new ranking series of the World Wrestling Union.
