(Persia Digest) – At a meeting with the French Foreign Minister in Tehran, the Iranian President emphasized on the importance of safeguarding the JCPOA for regional security, stability, and cooperation, saying: “The collapse of the JCPOA will be the point of regret for everyone. Of course, we are ready for any circumstances that will not benefit us.”
At his meeting with FM Jean-Yves Le Drian, President Rouhani said dealing with the JCPOA is a testing time for all the signatories, and added: “The endurance of the JCPOA nuclear agreement will prove to the world that diplomacy and negotiations are the best options for resolving difficulties. Its collapse would mean diplomacy is a waste of time.”
Rouhani stressed on the necessity of all signatories remaining committed to the obligations they have undertaken in the deal, and stated: “Iran will never be the first country to violate the agreement and considers it a step forward in confidence-building, peace, cooperation, and regional and international stability.
French FM, Le Drian, also reiterated that France respected the agreement and would remain committed to it, by saying: “IAEA reports show that Iran has fully abided by its obligations and France will do everything in its power to safeguard the 2015 JCPOA nuclear agreement with Iran.”
He pointed out to the significant increase in economic cooperation between Tehran and Paris achieved under the JCPOA over the past two years, and added: “We are interested in developing and strengthening all ties with the IR of Iran.”
As reported by Persia Digest, Jean-Yves Le Drian arrived in Tehran on Monday morning, 5 March 2018. His first meeting was with Admiral Ali Shamkhani, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, followed by a meeting with Iran’s top diplomat, Javad Zarif.
