(Persia Digest) – In a response to the replacement of the US Secretary of State, Abbas Araghchi, Political Deputy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran, has announced that a US withdrawal from the 2015 JCPOA nuclear agreement is a serious step calling for two scenarios.

He said: “The first scenario is that the US will withdraw from the JCPOA, triggering a withdrawal by Iran. We have already informed the EU that if they fail to keep the US in the deal, Iran will also leave.”

He added: “If the JCPOA is kept, the Americans will still continue to limit and face off Iran. Even if we continue to remain in the JCPOA with the EU and without the US, this would be a difficult task; because the Americans will only increase their pressures. The Europeans are presently endeavoring to keep the US in the deal in order to continue negotiations with Iran after the 8-year agreement. But Iran considers this an abrogation of the JCPOA.”

He went on to say: “Under the circumstances, the Europeans are trying to convince the Americans not to withdraw from the deal. Time will tell how successful the British, French, and Germans will be. The Europeans are edging around; because, if they lean over towards Trump, they will lose Iran

In a reaction to comments made by Abbas Araghchi about the JCPOA nuclear agreement, the Executive Director of the Arms Control Association, Daryl Kimball, has tweeted that Araghchi’s comments are a “#IranDeal red alert”.
