(Persia Digest) – A book on the cinematic works of the late Abbas Kiarostami, including his articles, translations, and three interviews will be launched simultaneously with the 36th Fajr International Film Festival.
The book, currently being readied for publication, includes eight articles and three interviews. A number of the articles have been compiled by Iranian researchers and a number by non-Iranians. It will be unveiled at the Festival.
Director of the Research & Publishing Department of the Academic Committee for the 36th International Fajr Film Festival said: “In the form and content of Abbas Kiarostami's works, one can seriously search for the cultural trails of Iranian identity. Nevertheless, his works have attracted a wide international audience, winning numerous awards. Perhaps we can say he is the best-known Iranian filmmaker worldwide and we hope that publishing this book will be a positive step towards wider research in his cinematic techniques and concepts.”
At the 35th Fajr International Film Festival, the booklet entitled “Gharb Zodayi Motale’at-e Film” [De-Westernization of Film Studies] was released, including an introduction, four articles, and three interviews selected from a book by the same name published by Routledge Publishers. An expert meeting will also be held at this year’s Festival on the same subject, attended by lecturers from European universities. One of the guests is also one of the compilers of the same book.
