(Persia Digest) – Iranian Defense Minister, Brigadier General Hatami, stated at the seventh Moscow Conference on International Security 2018: “We consider the 2015 JCPOA Iran nuclear agreement a successful example of international cooperation and diplomacy resulting from the endeavors of all parties within the framework of mutual respect for national and international laws to reach a regional and international security understanding. We consider abrogation by the US, coupled with certain alignments by its European allies and their excuses in implementing the agreement, as factors damaging international trust. By remaining committed to its obligations under the JCPOA, as to all its other commitments, the IR of Iran warns the opponents of the agreement that abrogating it will place the responsibility of the ensuing implications on international order and security on their shoulders.”
He continued: “The IR of Iran considers it a natural right to defend itself with its deterrent missile program and defense capabilities. Strengthening it to address potential threats is critical and will be pursued vigorously.”
In another part of his speech, Brigadier General Hatami said: “Iran emphasizes on a joint political initiative in resolving the Syrian crisis, opposes military interventions in other countries, and supports their territorial integrity and national sovereignty. It is ready to cooperate to end the plight of the oppressed people of the region, such as Yemen.”
Persia Digest reports that the Moscow Conference on International Security 2018 attended by defense ministers, chiefs of staff, military commanders, and officials from international organizations for defense and security from 80 countries is currently under way.
