(Persia Digest) – Professor Ali Khademhosseini holds a multi-departmental professorship in Bioengineering, Radiology, Chemical, and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA). He has conducted successful research in medical engineering, biomaterials, and tissue engineering. These days, photos of him can be seen can be seen across LA bus stops.
Ali Khademhosseini was born on 30 October 1975 in Tehran, Iran. He grew up in Toronto, Canada. He received his PhD in bioengineering from MIT (2005), and MASc (2001) and BASc (1999) degrees from University of Toronto both in chemical engineering.
He is also the Director of Center for Minimally Invasive Therapeutics (C-MIT), and an associate Director of California NanoSystems Institute. Dr Khademhosseini is also an Associate Editor for ACS Nano, and a standing member of the NIH BTSS (Bioengineering, Technology and Surgical Sciences) study section.
As of today, he has over 36 thousand citations and been invited to over 250 seminars as the main speaker.
Khademhosseini has also received around 70 major scientific awards and honors. He was selected as the most influential mind by Thomson Reuters in 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017.
The Khwarizmi International Award, given annually by the Iranian Research Organization for Science and Technology (IROST), also selected him at its 29th edition for his outstanding achievements in research and innovations. He is also a faculty member of MIT research and health division, where the team was able to bioengineer artificial tissues of the heart, liver, and skin composed of stem cells for transplants.
