(Persia Digest) – At a meeting with the Iranian Foreign Minister, the UN Secretary-General supported the 2015 JCPOA Iran nuclear deal and asked that all signatories remain committed to their obligations under the agreement.
The meeting took place on Tuesday 24 April 2018. Javad Zarif has traveled to New York to take part in the UN Meeting on Peacebuilding and Sustaining Peace, where Antonio Guterres talked about the JCPOA.
The two sides also discussed the regional situation, especially Syria and Yemen, and stressed on the role of UN in restoring regional peace and stability through diplomacy rather than military action.
Iran’s top diplomat had met earlier with the foreign ministers of Belgium, Norway, Sweden, Germany, and Poland.
The Meeting on Peacebuilding and Sustaining Peace was proposed by Miroslav Laychek, President of the United Nations General Assembly for the 72nd session, where FM Zarif gave a speech and announced Iran’s readiness to hold a regional dialogue forum.
