(Persia Digest) – Asghar Farhadi’s premiere of “Everybody knows” opening the 2018 Cannes Film Festival has coincided with the news of the US withdrawing from the JCPOA nuclear agreement on 8 May, a step Farhadi regards as placing more pressure on the people of Iran rather than its government.
Twice Oscar winner Iranian producer told Washington Post: “Many Iranians have sent me kind messages over the past few days. But I have also felt their distress in them. I was very sorry to see the US withdraw from the JCPOA, because this is not just an issue for the Iranian government, but also for its people who will suffer the most.”
He continued: “As I was traveling abroad a few years back, a mother asked me to tell international media that her sick child was in need of medication which was not available due to sanctions. Exiting the JCPOA is simply an excuse aimed at undoing everything the Obama administration achieved.”
