(Persia Digest) – “Border”, co-produced by Denmark and Sweden, directed by Iranian-Swedish director, Ali Abbasi won Un certain regard Award at at the 71st Cannes Film Festival.
The jury of Un certain regard, with Benicio del Toro as the Jury President, selected “Border” by Ali Abbasi as the Best Film in this category. “The Dead and the Others” co-produced by Brazil and Portugal, directed by João Salaviza and Renée Nader Messora also won the Jury Prize.
“Border” is about a border guard (Eva Melander), who is able to catch smugglers by smelling people’s feelings.
In other sections, Sergei Loznitsa won Un Certain Regard Award for Best Director for Donbass, and "Sophia" directed by "Meryem Benm'Barek-Aloïsi" won Un Certain Regard Award for Best Screenplay.
Victor Pultter also won Un Certain Regard Jury Award for Best Performance in the 2018 Cannes Film Festival for "Girl" directed by Lukas Dhont.
Benicio del Toro, the Oscar-winning Puerto Rican actor, as the Jury President, Annemarie Jacir, Palestinian writer and director, Kantemir Balagov, Russian director, Virginie Ledoyen, French actress, and Julie Huntsinger, the American executive director of the Telluride Film Festival comprised this year's jury of “Un certain regard” section.
According to the Cannes Film Festival, the 18 films chosen in "Un certain regard" section of this year's festival were selected from over two thousand films from different countries of the world.
The 71st Cannes Film Festival ends tonight with a closing ceremony and announcement of the winners.
