(Persia Digest) – And the Best Screenplay Award goes to Jafar Panahi for his film “Three faces” at the 71st Cannes Film Festival. The Palm d’Or went to the Japanese movie “'Shoplifters” directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda.
The Iranian cinema only took the Best Screenplay in Cannes this year. The 2018 Jury resided by Cate Blanchett awarded Best Screenplay jointly to Jafar Panahi from Iran for his film “Three faces”, and Alice Rohrwacher from Italy for her film “Happy as Lazzaro”. Oscar winner, Asghar Farhadi, whose movie “Everybody knows” opened the Festival, sent his congratulations to his compatriot, Panahi, for winning the award.
The Ecumenical Jury Special Mention and Grand Prix, which is the most prestigious award after the Palme d’Or in Cannes, was given to Spike Lee for “BlacKkKlansman”. The Jury Prize went to Nadine Labaki from Lebanon for “Kafarmanam”.
The Special Palme d'Or went to Jean-Luc Godard for his “Image Book”. Godard, who seldom takes parts in these events, was not present at the closing ceremony.
Best Actress went to Samal Yeslyamova for “Ayka”, and Best Actor went to Marcello Fonte for “Dogman”.
Best Director went to Pawel Pawlikowski for the black and white movie “Cold War”.
The Short Films Palme d'Or was awarded to Charles Williams for “All These Creatures”. Iranian Saeid Jafarian’s film “Darkness” was also one of the eight nominees in this category.
Caméra d'Or went to Lukas Dhont for “Girl”. President of the Caméra d'Or was Ursula Mayer.
The FIPRESCHI award went to South Korean Lee Chang-dong for “Burning”.
