(Persia Digest) - FFT writes that the video assistant referee (VAR) system worked well in the Portugal's match against Iran, Portugal head coach Fernando Santos said on Tuesday morning (AEST).
Paraguayan referee Enrique Caceres used VAR several times and awarded penalties to both teams.
"I think VAR worked in this match and we have to accept this decision," Santos said.
"We had a strong opponent. I would like to thank Iran head coach Carlos Queiroz, he did a great job. His players are very organised and play intense."
He added that his team started the match well, but dropped their intensity which allowed Iran to get back into the game and put pressure on Portugal.
"We lost control at some point. Iran were battling well and scored a goal. But we did what we expected and I would like to congratulate my players with the good result. Now we have to think how to beat Uruguay, " Santos said.
Portugal were held to a 1-1 draw by Iran at the Mordovia Arena in Saransk on Tuesday and qualified to the round of 16 in the second place, while Iran were eliminated from the tournament.
Portugal will face Uruguay on June 30.
