(Persia Digest) – Tehran zoo has become a member of the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA) for five years. It will have access to all the membership rights of EAZA during these five years and pursue its environmental, conservationist, educational, and cultural goals.
Tehran zoo vet, Iman Memarian, said Iran had been trying to obtain international European standards for nearly five years: “Last year, an EAZA delegation came for an official visit of the Tehran zoo and announced their decision last month.”
He added: “Tehran zoo still has some issues to resolve in order to become a permanent member. Presently, about 80 percent of the zoo is up to standard for a membership. This is the first time Tehran zoo has become a member of EAZA.”
