(Persia Digest) – Iran’s Football Federation has responded to Adidas sanctioning Iran.

Federation President, Mahdi Taj, has said: “Adidas must apologize to the people of Iran.”

Persia Digest reports that following the unilateral US sanctions imposed against Iran, Adidas recently announced that it is sanctioning Iran’s Football Federation. Adidas provided the jerseys for Team Melli at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

In a letter to the head of the marketing committee Mahdi Taj, the President of the Iranian Football Federation, emphasized that, while seriously pursuing the legal issues in the international community, they should look for an alternative contract.

Nike also refused to supply Team Melli with boots for the World Cup 2018 in Russia. This was met with huge reactions in Iranian and world media. Nike also said it has taken this decision due to US sanctions. The Team Melli coach, Carlos Queiroz, criticized the meddling of politics in sports at the time and asked FIFA to look into the issue, because the Iranian team only wanted to play football.
