(Persia Digest) - Following the recent economic turmoil and failure of the government to control the situation, the Iranian Minister of Economy was impeached by the Islamic Consultative Assembly and was eventually dismissed.
Masoud Karbasian's impeachment session was held this morning. He defended himself after talks by supporters and opponents of the impeachment.
Subsequently, votes were cast by parliamentarians. Out of a total of 260 votes, 137 were for the impeachment, 121 against, and 2 abstentions. Thus, Karbasian was dismissed as Minister of Economy.
He is the second minister to be dismissed by MPs following the impeachment and dismissal of former Minister of Labor, Ali Rabiei, recently.
