(Persia Digest) – The Deputy Prosecutor of Mashhad, Iran’s second largest city, said: “A person who was gathering information for an enemy country has been arrested.”
Judge Hassan Heidari pointed out that this person was arrested in Mashhad, adding: “After issuing an arrest warrant for the accused, his case was referred to court and a 7-year sentence was confirmed after an appeal.”
According to Heidari, the accused, who is 60, was initially tried at the 8th branch of the Islamic Revolutionary Tribunal and sentenced to 10 years in prison. Following a plea at the Khorasan Razavi Province appeals court, the judges eventually reduced his sentence to seven years by taking into consideration his circumstances. The sentence is definitive and binding.
Persia Digest reports that no further information has been released about the accused and the country he was spying for.
