(Persia Digest) – A centenarian dotar player astonished the audience with his performance on the last night of the 5th Ayeneh-Dar Regional and Ritual Music Festival.
Karbalaee Asghar Ebrahimnejad, the 100-year-old vocalist and player of dotar string instrument, went on stage with the help of his grandchild who also tuned his dotar for the old man who is now hard of hearing. According to the festival Secretary, he is little-known in Iran, but has had an influential role in promoting Mazandaran’s dotar music.
Farmer-artist, Janali Akbarian, also made his debut on the last night of the festival. He has been playing since the age of five for farmers working in the rice paddies of Mazandaran Province, northern Iran.
Persia Digest reports that Ayeneh-Dar Regional and Ritual Music Festival focuses on Iranian folk music and diverse culture.
The fifth edition of the event was held in Tehran from 30 November to 4 December at the Rudaki and Vahdat halls, dedicated to music from Iran’s three northern provinces of Guilan, Mazandaran, and Golestan.
