(Persia Digest) – The National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of Iran’s Islamic Consultative Assembly has said: “The Intelligence Minister and his directors have stressed that Esmaeil Bakhshi was never tortured during his detention by the Ministry.”

Ali Najafi-Khoshrudi added: “Claims of torture by Esmaeil Bakhshi, worker of Haft Tappeh Sugar Cane Factory, were investigated by the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee and Intelligence Minister Seyed Mahmoud Alavi.”

He added: “The Intelligence Minister and directors of the Ministry presented a report on the events leading to the arrest of Mr Bakhkshi, emphasizing that the said person was never tortured while in detention by the Ministry of Intelligence.”

He reminded: “The Minister of Intelligence reiterated that intelligence work is carried out firmly within the boundaries of people’s rights.”

Persia Digest (PD) reported that Esmaeil Bakhshi claimed he was tortured while under arrest by the Intelligence Ministry. His claims went viral on social media and caught the attention of Iranian public opinion. Iran’s Constitution bans any form of torture. Authorities and entities, including MPs, demanded that the claims be investigated.

The President and Head of the Judiciary also issued separate orders to look into the claims.
