(Persia Digest) – An EU spokesperson has pointed to the compact agenda of Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, saying she will probably be unable to fit the anti-Iran summit in Poland in her work schedule.
This European source told IRNA reporter in London: “We are aware that a summit on the ME called “Peace and security in the Middle East” is being held. But Mogherini is currently traveling and it is highly unlikely that she can make the summit.”
The so-called “Peace and security in the Middle East” summit on 13-14 February in Warsaw is focused on Iran’s regional presence.
Mike Pompeo announced the summit last Friday during a trip to the Middle East.
Iran has objected to Poland hosting the summit.
The EU spokesperson also gave the news of EU’s SPV mechanism for the implementation of the JCPOA starting up in the coming days.
He told IRNA that the EU is committed to its international agreements and the implementation of the JCPOA. It is also expecting Iran to play a positive role in this and continue honoring its nuclear obligations.
The EU source reiterated that there is no peaceful replacement for the JCPOA and the SPV is its last stages of planning.
