(Persia Digest) – Iran has reacted to the political situation in Venezuela.

Iran’s Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bahram Ghasemi, pointed to recent events in Venezuela, saying: “The IR of Iran supports the government and people of Venezuela against any outside interference in its internal affairs, attempts of illegal coups, and anti-popular measures.”

He added: “We hope that any political disagreements in Venezuela will be resolved by the people and government of the country by adopting legal and peaceful measures as soon as possible.”

Persia Digest (PD) reports that following unrests in Venezuela, leader of the opposition, Juan Guido, announced himself as the country’s new president and was immediately supported by the US.

Canada, Brazil, Colombia, Guatemala, Chile, Peru, Argentina, and Paraguay have also supported Guido, while Russia, China, Mexico, Turkey, and Bolivia have supported Nicolas Maduro.
