(Persia Digest) – On the occasion of its 20th publication anniversary, British Songlines magazine has named the world’s top 20 artists including the Iranian acclaimed musician Kayhan Kalhor.
Kayhan Kalhor was born in the city of Kermanshah in 1963. In addition to kamancheh, he plays the tanbur, setar and shahkaman. Kalhor also composes film music. He has become an international musician for playing alongside Erdal Erzincan from Turkey, Shujaat Hosain Khan from India, Yo-Yo Ma and Xiao Xi Ping from China, Alim Qasimov from Azerbaijan Republic, Brookline Ryder form the US, New York Philharmonic Orchestra, Kronos Quartet and the Dutch wind instruments ensemble.
Kayhan Kalhor was nominated for a Grammy award as composer and player for a number of his albums including, “Without You”, “Faryad” (Scream), “Rain”, and “Off the Map”. In 2016, Kalhor and the Silk Road Ensemble, led by Yo-Yo Ma, won the Best World Music Album Award for their “Sign Me Home” album during the 59th Grammy Awards.
