(Persia Digest) – The film “Night of the full moon” has won Best Picture at the 37th Fajr Film Festival in Tehran.
It is about the true story of the wedding of Abdol-Hamid Rigi, the brother of Abdol-Malek Rigi, leader of the Jundallah group. Former leader of the group, Abdol-Malek Rigi, was based in Sistan & Baluchestan Province, southeastern Iran. He led an armed struggle against the IR of Iran, killing Iranian citizens. Jundallah has been declared a “terrorist group” by the IR of Iran, IR of Pakistan, and the US.
Director of “Night of the full moon”, Narges Abyar, also won Best Director at the festival. Its leading actors, Houtan Shakiba and Elnaz Shakerdoust, won the Crystal Simorgh award for Best Actor and Best Actress respectively. Best Supporting Actress went to Fereshteh Sadr-Erfaei. The picture also won the Best Makeup award.
“Metri sheh o nim” by Saeed Roustayi won the Crystal Simorgh for Best Audience Choice. Veteran actor, Ali Nassirian, was awarded the Crystal Simorgh for Best Supporting Actor in “The Clown”. Best Screenplay went to Mohsen Gharaei and Mohammad Davoudi for “Ghasr-e Shirin”.
Persia Digest (PD) reports that the lineup at the Fajr Film Festival included 22 films in the competition section (Soda-ye Simorgh), three animations, ten in the “Negah-e No” category, seven short films, and five documentaries.
The films were screened at the Mellat Cineplex in Tehran and 56 cinema theaters in the provinces from 30 January to 11 February 2019.
