(Persia Digest) - Evidence suggests that the real reason for the resignation of Iran’s Foreign Minister was not being invited to the meetings with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad during his visit with authorities in Tehran.
After the resignation announcement by Iran’s top diplomat, a group of diplomats and Foreign Ministry officials announced they would also resign if Zarif’s resignation was accepted.
Javad Zarif responded by encouraging them to abstain from taking such a measure and reiterated: “It was an honor for me to serve alongside you. I hope my resignation will click the Foreign Ministry back into its rightful status in foreign relations.”
Announcing his resignation on Instagram, Zarif messaged an Iranian reporter: “After seeing the photos of today’s meetings, Javad Zarif has no more credibility as Foreign Minister in the world.”
He was pointing to photos of Bashar al-Assad’s trip to Iran.
Javad Zarif is not seen in any of the pictures published of the Supreme Leader and Iranian President’s meetings with Assad.
