(Persia Digest) – The Quds Force Commander has said: “Mr Zarif is in charge of the IR of Iran foreign policies and has the support of top authorities in the country.”
Major General Ghasem Soleimani, Commander of the Quds Force, has reacted to FM Javad Zarif’s resignation by saying: “Mr Zarif is in charge of foreign affairs of the IR of Iran and has always had the support of top authorities in the country, especially the Supreme Leader.”
He added: “He has consistently carried out valuable work at various levels to secure the national interests of the country and has also collaborated in the fight against the sworn enemies of the Islamic Revolution and the Iranian nation.”
Major General Soleimani pointed to Zarif’s absence in recent meetings between the Iranian and Syrian presidents, reiterating: “During the recent visit by Bashar al-Assad to Tehran and his meeting with Dr Rouhani, certain discoordination in the President’s Office led to Mr Zarif’s absence from the meeting and entailed his objections.”
The Quds Force Commander underlined: “Scrutiny indicates that no untoward intention was involved and I must emphasize that he is in charge of the IR of Iran’s foreign policies as the Minister of Foreign Affairs.”
Major General Soleimani pointed to the joy of counter-revolutionaries and enemies of the Iranian nation over the resignation, saying: “This joy and riding on the wave which is the result of red tape and administrative failure has no impact on the resolve of the Islamic establishment in moving ahead with its national interests and the glorious victory of the Islamic Resistance Front.”
Persia Digest (PD) reports that FM Zarif posted a message on Instagram Monday night handing in his resignation. This was not accepted by President Rouhani.
