(Persia Digest) – Iranian goalkeeper for Persepolis Club and Team Melli, Alireza Beiranvand, has been selected as Iran’s Football Man of the Year in a poll conducted among the public and coaches and captains of Iran’s Premier League football clubs.
Persia Digest (PD) reports that as the Iranian year draws to a close, the popular TV program “90” which reviews football in Iran has conducted a poll to choose the Football Man of the Year.
The poll was conducted in two parts. In the first part, which is similar to Best FIFA Men's Player survey, a list of 30 players was sent to a total of 32 coaches and captains of Iran’s Premier League football clubs who selected their top three choices. The first choice had 5 points, the second 3, and the third 1 point. The results of the poll placed goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand at the top with a total of 55 points.
Beiranvand’s brilliant catches of Ronaldo’s penalty kick in the 2018 World Cup and Xavier’s headshot in the semi-finals of the AFC Champions League, together with his masterful performance at the AFC Asian Cup made him the most influential athlete in Iran this year.
Other rankings in the survey include Persepolis captain Seyed Jalal Hosseini with 33 points next, followed by Sardar Azmoun, Omid Ebrahimi, Ashkan Dejageh, Varia Ghafouri, and Morteza Pourali-Ganji.
The second part of the poll was a public one sending SMS messages to over one million and 541 people. Alireza Beiranvand came top with 33.5 percent of the votes cast by the “90” audience as Iran’s Football Man of the Year. On his heels in 2nd and 3rd place respectively were Seyed Jalal Hosseini with 24.4 percent and Varia Ghafouri with 13.8 percent of the votes.
