(Persia Digest) – Iran lost the 2019 Wrestling World Cup to Russia to become the runners-up at the games.
The 2019 Freestyle Wrestling World Cup in Russia took place on 16-17 March in Yakutsk, Russia, for the U23 teams. Iran wrestled Russia at the final and lost 9-1 to rank second.
Iran’s U23 wrestling team participated in the games in Russia with a number of freestyle men’s team members.
Iranians won the group stage of the games 9-1, 5-5, and 8-2 against Mongolia, the US, and Georgia respectively to make it to the finals.
The US team also beat Japan 6-4 in the ranking games to take third place.
Iran’s Freestyle Wrestling Team had won the title eight times previously at games in 1996 Tehran, 2006 Sari, 2012 Baku, 2013 Tehran, 2014, 2015, and 2016 Los Angeles, and 2017 Kermanshah. They were also runners-up eleven times.
