(Persia Digest) – Students of Sharif University of Technology (SUT) in Tehran have ranked third at the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) after eighteen years, putting behind powerful adversaries such as Princeton, Harvard, Oxford, and Saint Petersburg State University to take the bronze medal.

The Department of Computer Engineering Students at SUT ranked 9th in the final and won the first bronze medal of the competition. They ranked top among West Asia teams, taking the regional title.

ICPC is the top computer programing contest in the world and is known as the Olympics of programers. The final of the contest was staged in Portugal from 31 March for six days.

The contest was held among 135 of the world’s top teams who were selected following regional selection competitions among 17 thousand teams from 3200 universities.
