(Persia Digest) – The Spanish Marca online journal has announced the top three candidates in Iran’s football history for the title of most valuable player.
In an online poll conducted by Marca on its website, users were asked to vote for the most valuable football player in the history of every country.
Ali Karimi, Ali Daei, and Mehdi Mahdavikia emerged as the three Iranian candidates. Out of the 236,181 votes cast as of now, Ali Karimi leads with 47 percent, followed by Ali Daei with 37 percent and Mehdi Mahdavikia with 16 percent.
Ali Karimi is a former Persepolis Club and Bayern Munich player. Ali Daei is a former team member of Persepolis, Arminia Bielefeld, Hertha Berlin, and Bayern Munich. Mahdavikia also left Persepolis for Germany and played for Hamburg for years.
Two to six players were introduced for most countries on the list. The number varied based on the number of football legends in that country.
