(Persia Digest) – The Persepolis Football Club of Tehran is to surprise the Spanish player and former Barcelona midfielder, Xavi Hernandez, at the end of his last professional play.
Persia Digest (PD) reports that Hernandez, former star of Barcelona and present member of the Qatar’s al Sadd Team, who announced a few days ago that he will say goodbye to football at the end of the current season, will hang his shoes at the end of the 2019 AFC Champions League after the match with Persepolis and continue his career as a coach.
His play with Persepolis will probably be the last match of Barca’s former midfielder. That’s why the officials of Persepolis FC are planning to surprise and honor the Spanish legend, former world champion and the League of European Champions at the end of his last match in Tehran.
Persepolis will host Qatar’s al-Sadd in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium on 20 May.
Persepolis suffered a 1-0 defeat against Pakhtakor of Uzbekistan on Monday 6 May, losing the chance to climb to the next level. However, al-Sadd climbed to the top of the table in its group winning 2-1 against al-Ahli from Saudi Arabia and now it must play against Persepolis to win the championship.
