(Persia Digest) – A report by the official website of the Iraqi Hashd al-Shaabi (volunteer forces) said that the Head of Hashd al-Shaabi, Faleh al-Fayyaz, who also serves as the country’s national security advisor, has met with the Foreign Minister of Iran Mohammad Javad Zarif in Tehran on Monday.
The two discussed bilateral relations and ways to expand them, as well as the latest developments in the region, and efforts to build security and stability.
Persia Digest (PD) reports that Hashd al-Shaabi is the name of Iraq’s popular mobilized forces formed to fight against terrorists based on Fatwas of the Iraqi Shiite Ulema, Ayatollah Sistani in particular, after Daesh terrorists invaded Iraq. Hashd al-Shaabi is close to the Qods Force of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) in its fight against terrorism.
On Monday (10 June2019), Zarif also met with his visiting German counterpart Heiko Maas in Tehran. The two attended a press conference after the meeting during which they stressed joint positions on maintaining the nuclear deal officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) as well as reducing tensions in the region.
