(Persia Digest) – The Head of the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization of Iran has said: “Based on the announcement by the Central Bank of Iran (CBI), the tourism industry contributed USD 11.8BN to the GDP last year, and handicraft exports contributed USD 600MM.”

Speaking among economists and investors in the tourism industry of Sistan and Baluchestan Province, Ali-Asghar Munesan added that the Organization had provided over 200 thousand sustainable jobs in Iran.

Munesan stated: “The private sector is fully aware of the importance of tourism. This is why we are witness to investments of over 180 trillion tomans (±USD 14BN) by the private sector in this industry today.”

He added: “We had an increase in the number of tourists visiting Iran last year from five million to 7.8 million visitors.”
