(Persia Digest) – Farmers in Iran’s northern Mazandaran Province have started their rice cultivation by holding their traditional annual feast of rice paddies.

Rice is a vital production for the people of Mazandaran and a staple diet. Farmers stage a variety of celebrations every year before and after cultivation takes place as a thanksgiving for their blessings. The long-standing rice paddy feast is one of these which is held prior to cultivation just before Nowruz. An exhibition is also held for handicrafts related to rice cultivation, baking bread, cooking a traditional potage, and showcasing traditional agricultural tools.

Mazandaran is the country’s main pole for rice cultivation and produces one million and 50 thousand tonnes of rice every year, meeting 42 percent of the country’s need.
