(Persia Digest) – Famous Kurdish vocalist, Mazhar Khaleghi, has returned to Iran after 38 years to take part at the Kurdish Elite Congress. He entered Iran from the Bashmakh-Marivan border on Monday afternoon on 1 July and was met by the governor of Kurdistan Province.
A number of elite Kurdish artists and masters in various fields who reside across the globe have been invite to the Congress to be accredited and introduced further to people.
Mazhar Khaleghi was born in Sanandaj in 1938. He is the brother-in-law of the late Jalal Talabani, former Iraqi President. He has returned to his birthplace after 38 years.
Mazhar Khaleghi began learning traditional Iranian and Kurdish music from a young age. His first recording dates back to thirty years ago on Sanandaj Radio in Persian.
The Kurdish Elite Congress will be held on 2-3 July this year at the University of Kurdistan. Thirty members of the Kurdish elite and international researchers on Kurdistan will be accredited at this prominent cultural event. Other invitees at the congress include members of the famed Kurdish folk music group in Iran, the Kamkaran family.
