(Persia Digest) – Iran’s Garment Manufacturers and Sellers Union leader has announced that Iran will be exporting apparel to Afghanistan, Iraq, Russia, and Yemen.
Abol-Ghasem Shirazi pointed out that the domestic market for the clothing industry in Iran is saturated, adding: “Currently, 70-80 percent of garments on the Iranian market are made in Iran by domestic manufacturers.”
He highlighted that importing foreign clothing has now been banned in Iran, adding: “Fortunately, authorities are firmly dealing with garment smuggling and we have witnessed a sharp drop in trafficking.”
Shirazi wrapped up by saying: “One of our objectives in the current year is to increase production and exports. We aim to increase the level of exports which was not satisfactory last year.”
