(Persia Digest) – The first women’s cycling track has opened in Tehran at the Reihaneh Park in district 22.
Speaking at the ceremony, the council’s planning officer said: “Paying attention to requirements for women is an important part of urban management and managers must create suitable spaces for women in public places.”
Sakineh Ashrafi stated that women are a significant part of Tehran, adding: “Women are some of the best planners and we invite you to take part in urban planning and management.”
Reihaneh Park has a cycling track of 2600 meters and women can use it without restrictive clothing and hijab.
The total track lenght in this district is 30,500 meters, of which 18,350 is dedicated to recreational cycling, such as in Chitgar Park or the Persian Gulf Lake track.
There are no restrictions for women cycling in these areas by observing the Islamic dress code.
Persia Digest (PD) reports that a number of other parks had previously opened in Tehran for women only where they can relax without the hijab.
