(Persia Digest) – Over 40 percent more tourists visited Iran during the three months of spring YOY. In return, 6.5 percent fewer Iranians traveled abroad during the same period.
Persia Digest (PD) reports that a drop in Iranian travel overseas began in 2017 with higher plane ticket prices, spike in currency rates, and airport tax. The trend continued in the spring of 2019.
The months of March, April, and May 2019 saw a total of over 1 million 759 thousand and 749 trips overseas by Iranians, showing a 6.52 percent negative growth as compared to a similar period last year. In March, April, and May 2018, one million 882 thousand and 414 Iranians traveled abroad.
A study of incoming tourists in the same months, however, shows a 40.66 percent increase YOY.
A total of 2 million 30 thousand and 523 tourists came to Iran in the said period in 2019. This figure was 1 million 443 thousand and 551 in 2018.
