(Persia digest)- The two-time Oscar winning director Asghar Farhadi’s latest film to be screened in 2018 has been named ‘Todos lo saben’, starring Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem. He will start shooting in Spain in September.
According to IMDb, the movie will be in Spanish. The script was written in Persian by Farhadi and translated into Spanish. The famous Spanish couple will be starring in this psychological drama about a family, where the kidnapping of a little girl leads to the revelation of family secrets. The brothers Almadovar, Pedro and Agustin – founders of El Deseo – will be producing the film in cooperation with Memento.
Memento, who has also produced Farhadi’s last two films, said Farhadi and Cruz had been interested in working together for some time now and it is finally happening. Farhadi had said earlier that this new film was going to be made before ‘The Salesman’, but he preferred to make a film in Iran after ‘The Past’.
The details for ‘Todos lo saben’ is still hush hush, but it is focused on a Spanish family living in the suburbs of a big city. It is said to be a thriller with a message inspired by Agatha Christie stories, already witnessed in the works of Farhadi.
Agusto Almadovar has praised Farhadi’s work by saying the story is based on cultural and industrial issues and we have much in common when it comes to selecting themes.
In 2012, Asghar Farhadi won his first Academy Award and Golden Globe for best foreign film for ‘A Separation. In 2016, he won best screenplay for ‘The Salesman’ at the Cannes Film Festival and best foreign language film at the 2017 Oscars. His other awards are the Silver Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival for ‘About Eli’ and the festival’s Golden Bear for ‘A Separation’.
