(Persia Digest) – Iran’s VP for women and family affairs has announced: “With the facilities provided in the stadiums of some provinces, barriers to the presence of women in the stadiums are being lifted.”
Masoumeh Ebtekar said: “Women have already attended certain stadiums and fortunately there were no problems. We are hoping that facilities will be provided to lift the restrictions for women going to stadiums.”
Persia Digest (PD) reports that FIFA issued a written warning to Iran to announce its schedule for changes being made in this respect; otherwise, Iranian football would be banned from international matches entirely.
FIFA does not accept ethnic, religious, and gender segregation and is responsible for overseeing the proper implementation of its Articles of Association worldwide.
Although no provisions have made in the Articles of Association of the Iranian football federation to ban women from attending matches, they have been prevented from watching men’s football games in stadiums.
With only two months left to the start of the preliminaries in Asia for the 2022 Qatar World Cup, Iran may face severe penalties if it is unable to comply with FIFA regulations.
