(Persia Digest) – Addressing the US Administration, the Iranian President said: “You cannot expect to endanger our security and expect security in return. Peace for peace and oil for oil. You cannot tell us you will not allow us to export our oil, but everyone else can.”
Hassan Rouhani met FM Javad Zarif at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs this morning and spoke among a group of its top deputies and directors, saying: “One of my main campaign slogans was constructive interaction with the world. Many voted for me for this reason.”
He stated that we must all obey the opinion of the majority of the people, adding: “All officials gain legitimacy with the people’s vote. Our constitution clearly states that running the country is governed by popular vote and through various elections.”
Rouhani continued by saying that the US believes it can change our regime through sanctions and pressure, underlining: “This is not possible as long as Article 6 of the Constitution is in place. If we distance ourselves from Article 6, then we must say our goodbyes sooner or later. Article 59 compliments Article 6.”
Persia Digest (PD) reports that these two articles in the Iranian constitution refer to the sovereignty of the people and the use of referendum when necessary.
Speaking about US sanctions on the Supreme Leader and Foreign Minister of Iran, Rouhani reiterated: “They said they were ready to talk without preconditions, but they sanctioned the Supreme Leader a few days later. We are not interested in negotiating with you because you do not have the competence to negotiate; but supposing we do, who will have to take the final decision? You know our laws and you are aware that we cannot pursue a significant issue without his opinion.”
He added: “You continued to insist on negotiations and sanctioned the Iranian Foreign Minister. How do you propose to negotiate? Who do you intend to negotiate with? Either the Americans have no policies or they are erratic and take a different decision every day.”
Rouhani said: “The IR of Iran supports negotiations. If the US is truly interested too, they must first lift all sanctions.”
The Iranian President continued by addressing the US Administration: “Peace with Iran is the mother of all peace and war with Iran is the mother of all wars. You cannot expect to endanger our security and expect security in return. Peace for peace and oil for oil. You cannot tell us you will not allow us to export our oil, but everyone else can. That’s not how it works.”
