(Persia Digest) - The latest official statistics in Iran show that the brain drain rate of elite scientists has been decreasing in recent years.

According to the latest study conducted by Iran's National Elite Foundation, 2712 Olympiads winners and 35,313 students who ranked between 1 to 1000 at university entrance exams were assessed.

The results of this study show that the brain drain rate of Iranian students who ranked between 1 to 1000 at university entrance exams in mathematics had a downward trend and decreased from about 60% for 2009-2011 graduates to about 38% for 2014-2016 graduates.

Also, the brain drain of Iranian students ranked between 1 to 1000 at university entrance exams in experimental sciences has decreased from about 10% for 2009-2011 graduates to less than 7% for 2014-2016 graduates.

The brain drain rate of Iranian students ranked between 1 to 1000 at university entrance exams in humanities has also decreased from about 20% for 2009 graduates to less than 8% for 2016 graduates.

Moreover, the brain drain rate of the mathematics, physics, chemistry, computer, astronomy and biology Olympiad winners dropped from about 62% for 2009-2011 graduates to about 37% for 2014-2016 graduates.

The statistics has been released at a time when Iran is considered one of the leading countries in brain drain to advanced countries in recent years.
