(Persia Digest) – A survey of the labor force in Iran shows eight main reasons for domestic migration last year with family reasons taking priority.
The Strategic Statistics and Information Center of the Ministry of Cooperation, Labor and Social Welfare of Iran has conducted a study on domestic migration among the working and unemployed population, coming up with a wide range of factors.
Last year, 711 thousand and 154 people moved around Iran of which 588 thousand and 312 were in urban areas and 122 thousand and 841 were in rural areas.
Based on this report, 52.8 percent moved for family reasons, 10 percent for employment, and 6.5 percent for better employment.
The report shows that 302 thousand and 817 domestic migrants were economic agents of which over 234 thousand were employed and 68 thousand and 753 were unemployed.
Job seekers have seen a surge in number in recent years with statistics indicating that over one million job applicants join the Iranian market annually.
