(Persia Digest) – The 14th International Street Theater Festival has opened in Marivan, western Iran, with Iranian and foreign street theater actors performing together alongside a dolls carnival of happiness.
Carnivals took to the streets with theater company players in their costumes, huge dolls, dolls in their local costumes from Kurdistan, Lorestan, Azarbaijan, southern Iran, and the Haji Firouz of the Iranian New Year whose counterpart is Father Christmas.
A big cake was also served for the occasion of the 14th edition of the festival.
The General Director of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance of Kurdistan Province said that 302 street theaters were submitted to the event in Marivan of which 202 were from Iran and 100 from outside Iran. Of these, 28 were accepted for the final leg of the festival, including ten international plays.
According to Jalal Ghal’eh-Shakhani, the 14th International Street Theater Festival in Marivan will be held in the eight categories of Iranian competitions, alternative performances, traditional plays, international plays competition, children and young adults’ theater, guests, and research and training workshops.
The festival will be held from 23-2 August in Marivan, western Iran.
