(Persia Digest) – Sharif University of Technology (SUT) students have won the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) competitions in designing air gas turbine engines. This is the first time an Iranian team has won a title at the AIAA.
The FARAS team from the Aerospace Engineering Faculty of SUT successfully put behind them the first stage of the 2019 AIAA competitions (air gas turbine engine design) to become one of the top three teams among fifteen participants in June 2019 and move on to the second stage on 21 August 2019. They submitted their design to the 2019 AIAA Propulsion and Energy Forum and won first place.
FARAS had to submit their work to the jury via video conference as they were unable to travel to the US.
The aerospace engineering students of Sharif University of Technology are the first Iranian team to win the AIAA title for their air gas turbine engine design and also first place of the competition.
The team won the honor after a year of research and efforts despite numerous problems such as being unable to use the engine analysis and design software due to US sanctions and not being able to attend the second stage of the competition in the US.
FARAS is also unable to receive its prize due to US sanctions.
It is worth noting that this year’s international competition was about designing the next generation of long-endurance search and rescue drone engines.
